For most of its 78 years as a functioning railway station, the Barry’s Bay Station was a busy community hub serving the transportation and communication needs of the citizens and businesses in the village and surrounding townships. The railway employees who worked, and sometimes lived, in the station, were the public face of the railroad and they played essential roles in the life and development of the community.
Join Mark Woermke to meet them — the station agents, telegraph operators and clerks who worked at the Barry’s Bay Station between 1894 and 1972. Learn about the jobs they did, their lives and careers, and their families. The fascinating stories of these railway employees highlight the important impact the railway had on the development of Barry’s Bay and the Madawaska Valley.
